Abstract

This study aims to analyze how reading al-Qur'an is taught in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Batam City and to find out a model of learning to read the al-Qur'an that is relevant to thecontext of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Batam City. To answer the research questions, the research approach used is a qualitative approach. Research data were collected using observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data is then analyzed using a qualitative approach. The results of the analysis show that first, learning to read the Qur'anin Madrasah Tsanawiyah Batam City so far can be categorized as poor. This conclusion is based on four things, namely, the method, the scope of the material, the role of studentsand teachers, and the media in the implementation of learning to read the Qur'an at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Batam City so far. Second, based on the results of the analysis conducted on the literature related to learning to read the Qur'an and the realities that occurin the field, the researchers found a learning model that fits the context of MadrasahTsanawiyah Batam City. The model is called the Basirah Model (Systematic, Innovative,Realistic, Active, and Holistic al-Qur'an Learning. By designing this model based on problems and needs in the field as well as relevant theories, this model is considered capable of being a solution to the problem of reading the Qur'an' at Madrasah Tsanawiyah,Batam City.
