Abstract

This study aims to examine the transformation of Islamic education in the context of indigenous communities in Batam, particularly in the multicultural Malay local culture. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach and data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that Islamic education in the context of indigenous communities in Batam has unique challenges and opportunities, especially in maintaining local Malay cultural values in a pluralistic society. The transformation of Islamic education can have positive implications for indigenous communities, including increasing religious awareness and strengthening cultural identity. However, the transformation also brings some negative impacts such as shifting cultural values and identity. Therefore, efforts are needed to integrate Islamic education with local Malay cultural values and strengthen the cultural identity of indigenous communities. Suggestions for further research are to deepen the study of the relationship between Islamic education and local Malay culture, as well as to examine strategies for developing Islamic education that is more adaptive to the context of indigenous communities in Batam
