Abstract

This article discusses the aspects of education reform according to Muhammad Abduh and Jamaluddin Al Afghani. Both figures advocated for more inclusive and modern education, and opposed social and cultural practices that conflicted with Islamic values and impeded societal progress. They also emphasized the development of individual potential and critical thinking. In pursuing education reform, they advocated for the importance of learning science and foreign languages to broaden perspectives. Although they share similarities in some respects, they also differ in their views on certain issues, such as the role of religious scholars in politics and education. This article will explore the comparisons and similarities between Muhammad Abduh and Jamaluddin Al Afghani in their efforts to advance education and social reform
